NEW as of Oct 6th 2024 PACT requirements for all import air freight shipments

The new PACT ruling effects air import shipments to Canada. The new PACT security protocol requires any shipments from a new shipper that has not shipped with Exfreight or its agent prior to September 2nd 2024 to verify certain aspects of its business prior to shipping. Any shipper who refuses to provide the requested documents and sign the required security agreement will not be able to ship by air freight into Canada. Required documents include: Copy of business or corporate registration certificate, Completed corporate information sheet outlining all contacts within the company, Banking information, a signed security contract agreement.

Even if an item is Duty free there is still a sales tax collected on all imports. The sales tax is passed onto the final buyer so if a foreign importer of record is selling to a Canadian company on DDP terms, and therefore paying the duty and tax amount, Canadian customs can collect the sales tax value from the consignee.

Your commercial invoice must include the currency of the values listed. It should also include unit value and number of units sold. Identifying the HTS code on the invoice is also helpful in classifying the item properly with the local customs office.

A schedule B # or HTS code is required for every shipment prior to export.

If the value exceeds $2500 value, please also provide a completed SLI to ExFreight or complete the export declaration on the ExFreight website.

If your booking is Full Container (FCL), a VGM form must be completed before documentation cutoff date.

Please provide a scanned copy of the documents to ExFreight prior to freight departure.

Shipments to a military base may require additional fees and paperwork if the base requires an exclusive truck for delivery or bonded delivery.

The following commodities may require additional paperwork and or special import licenses:

    • Medicines
    • Insecticides/Pesticides
    • Food
    • Cosmetics
